Seven Capital Sins
Seven Capital Sins or
Vices And Seven Virtues
Called the 7 Capital Sins because they engender other sins or are the root cause of other sins.
1. Pride = disordered desire to consider self superior to others or even God (self centered, self righteous, insisting on one's own way, boastful, arrogant, rude, over dependence on things, wealth, power, fame, technology, abilities).
2. Lust = disordered desire for sexual pleasure (fantasying, immodest speech, pornography, carousing, masturbation, oral sex, fornication, adultery, bestiality)
3. Greed (Avarice or Covetousness) = excessive desire for things, wealth or gain.
4. Gluttony = the excessive desire for eating and drinking.

5. Wrath (Anger) = desire for
vengeance or revenge. (hatred, unforgiveness, resentment, bitterness)
6. Sloth = disordered desire to enjoy the pleasure of rest (laziness, lack of concern, reluctance to make an effort, unwillingness to move out of comfort zone, postponing things, excess sleep or rest). When related to spiritual matters it is called Acedia.
7. Envy = discontent or distress over others possessing more than self and the consequent desire to possess more than others, (things, possessions, beauty, abilities, opportunities), when the discontent or distress is over others getting more love or appreciation than self it is called Jealousy
6. Sloth = disordered desire to enjoy the pleasure of rest (laziness, lack of concern, reluctance to make an effort, unwillingness to move out of comfort zone, postponing things, excess sleep or rest). When related to spiritual matters it is called Acedia.
7. Envy = discontent or distress over others possessing more than self and the consequent desire to possess more than others, (things, possessions, beauty, abilities, opportunities), when the discontent or distress is over others getting more love or appreciation than self it is called Jealousy
Seven Virtues
Humility -
It overcomes the sin of Pride.
Chastity -
It overcomes the sin of lust.
Liberality (Generosity) - It overcomes the sin of
Greed.
Temperance -
It overcomes the sin of Gluttony.
Meekness -
It overcomes the sin of Anger.
Diligence -
It overcomes the sin of sloth.
Brotherly Love -
It overcomes the sin of Envy.
